2372487324_302205e58cIts 3pm and you find yourself staring blankly at the screen….its time to snap out of it and start paying your energy levels a bit more attention.

Here’s some quick tips for boosting your energy levels:

Eat Regularly – Including Sugar!

This is just plain and simple obvious….I can’t believe some blogs recommend not eating!  And yes you can have sugar, just the right kind.  See, the reason why we’re facing a diabetes epidemic is not because of sugar, its because were consuming the wrong kind.  Sugars in processed foods are bad.  All you have to do is try and avoid processed foods – like super soft white bread which are known as high GI.   Foods that have had less processing will take longer for you to digest (low GI), therefore keeping your blood sugar levels stable.  In Australia we have Low GI packaging labels to look out for.

Instead of having a few big meals, eat regularly throughout the day.  And avoid fad diets and detox programs – they will spike your sugar levels, which is sure way to get type 2 diabetes.

Sleep For Seven Hours

Doctors recommend around 7-8 hours of sleep for adults.  Over sleeping will result in you feeling more tired.  I have found that reducing my sleep by an hour (to around 8 hours) resulted in me waking up feeling full of energy and refreshed.

Powernap or Meditate

When the 3pm drowsiness hits, its time for a powernap.  Aim for 20 minutes of sleep (which means you won’t drift into deep sleep).  You’ll wake up feeling like you’ve had a full nights sleep.  Heres an article I wrote previously on how to powernap.

Drink Green Tea

Or regular tea.  The caffiene in Tea is absorbed into your body at a differently to Coffee.  Instead of a jittery high, you will get a relaxed feeling that lasts a lot longer.  Green Tea also has lots of great energy boosting antioxidants.

Exercise

Its funny how you can feel like you have more energy after doing some light exercise.  This is because adrenalin and other wonderful stimulants have been released during exercise.  Exercise also does other wonderful things to do with your metabolism which will increase energy.

So there you have it.  These 5 things can be easily done, so now you have no excuse for the daily crash and burn.  What are your energy boosting tips?

i dont know… i’ve been loosely following the Warrior Diet concept of under-eating during the day. basically throughout the day i will have an apple, a couple of crackers w/ a little peanut butter, and/or a small handful of almonds. and I feel far more energetic than i used to when i was eating all the time. also, ironically, i feel way less hungry. and if i workout in the morning i almost cannot be productive again until i nap. i guess its just a matter of personal preference and finding what works for you personally.
